‘The metaverse is being built and Virtual Reality is the vehicle through which we can access it’
Reflecting on the foundations of an interconnected digital future

- INVELON participated this morning in the debate organised by the Blockchain Centre of Catalonia on Virtual Reality and the applications of blockchain in this technology
- A conversation between Quirze Salomó, CEO of the CBCat, and Joan Folguera, CEO of INVELON, which highlighted the impact that the metaverse can have in the short and long term
Lleida, 22 April 2022. The meeting took place this morning at the Llotja de Lleida with the aim of disseminating how blockchain technology can revolutionise various technological sectors. In the field of Virtual Reality, in the short term we will enter the Internet 3.0 and we will access the metaverse through three-dimensional devices, as more and more houses will have a Virtual Reality viewer.
According to Joan Folguera, CEO of INVELON, we will soon see a wide range of affordable 3D glasses, a boom that has come about as a result of the acceleration of digitalisation and social gaming. Largely as a result of the pandemic, as well as the emergence of platforms such as blockchain on which other next-generation technologies will converge and which will enable an agile and complete digital transformation.
The metaverse is currently being defined and has to be imagined. As Quirze Salomó, CEO of CBCat, points out, we are at a point prior to the acceleration and conquest of this virtual world, which will be made on the basis of powerful and creative technological professional profiles that symbolise a great career opportunity, both for the present and for the future, especially. It is also necessary for the metaverse to become interoperable and connected, so that this virtual world can be completed with its own economy, governance, identity and, therefore, its own democracy.
In the long term, Folguera predicts that we will be moving towards Internet 3.0 combined with Virtual Reality technologies, a metaverse that will be involved in our daily lives. According to the CEO of INVELON, in this metaverse there will be assets, streamings, products, services... that will generate economy and will provide added value, which some companies are already applying to be more competitive and differentiate themselves from the rest. It is in this context that INVELON has developed different software solutions, among which we can highlight AURORA VR, the solution for creating virtual scenarios and validating 3D models prior to creation, thus saving time and production costs.
Future challenges
One of the main challenges in Catalonia, for the application of these technologies, is to have good connectivity to guarantee access to these virtual worlds, therefore, the appearance of 5G and 6G is fundamental. According to Salomó, although Catalonia's fibre optic network is powerful and there is a considerable deployment in the country, 5G is 'key in the deployment of technologies'.
On the other hand, and in the international arena, one of the other lines of work and one of the main objectives of companies such as Mark Zuckerberg's Meta is to make the physical body increasingly connected to the digital world and, therefore, to make the sensation of three-dimensionality more realistic through different connectors and devices.
