The Project and Its Need: Breaking Digital and Intergenerational Barriers
INVELON has carried out a comprehensive Virtual Reality social engagement project for Cruz Roja Española, with the aim of enabling groups of older people to discover VR and enjoy, through in-person and experiential workshops, exploring immersive and cultural environments without physical barriers.
Through these workshops, Cruz Roja Española promotes digital inclusion and offers unique experiences to groups that may face accessibility or reduced mobility conditions. In addition, the project also aims to bring immersive technology closer to all audiences, break down technological barriers and the generational gap, ensuring that older people can also enjoy immersive Virtual Reality experiences.
The Solution: A Comprehensive Project. Hardware and Software, with Hand Tracking Added
INVELON provided a deployment of 10 Meta Quest 3S headsets, together with a variety of original cultural experiences developed by INVELON and optimized with hand tracking technology.
When selecting the experiences, it was taken into account that the user experience had to be simple while also being highly rewarding, adapted to the participants’ level of technological knowledge and their usual lack of familiarity with this type of technology.
For this reason, the selected experiences had an appropriate level of technical difficulty. In addition, INVELON actively participated in the development of the workshops by providing in-person support and facilitating the groups, helping to break down technological barriers and the intergenerational digital divide.
“We want people to approach new technologies with confidence and discover how virtual reality can open up new possibilities for them, allowing them to experience things that, due to their circumstances, might otherwise be beyond their reach, such as travelling and discovering new places.”
Angell Ardiles, Heritage and XR Tender Manager at INVELON
The Result: A Project with Human and Social Impact
The initiative was extremely well received, generating moments of great emotion among the participants. Many of them experienced and discovered Virtual Reality for the first time and expressed their desire to repeat the experience.
For INVELON, projects like this have special added value because of their inclusive and human dimension, perfectly reflecting our vision of technology as a tool that makes a wide range of experiences accessible to everyone, breaking down barriers and democratizing its use.
This project demonstrated the effectiveness of Virtual Reality as a tool for stimulation, learning and leisure for older people.
“Seeing the excitement of an 87-year-old person after experiencing Virtual Reality during the Cruz Roja Española workshops reminds us of the potential of XR to open up new opportunities for learning, inclusion and enjoyment at any age. That excitement gives meaning to our work and encourages us to continue promoting technology at the service of people at INVELON.”

“Seeing the excitement and surprise on older people’s faces when they put on virtual reality glasses for the first time has been a very enriching experience. These workshops have demonstrated that technology can become a tool to stimulate curiosity, encourage participation and create new learning and enjoyment experiences at any age. For Cruz Roja, initiatives like this are an opportunity to continue bringing innovation closer to people and move towards genuine, barrier-free digital inclusion.”
