Lleida's participation in the first world forum for the development of the Metaverse
Explore how we collaborate in the definition of Metavers standards
October 3, 2022
- Lleida-based Invelon has joined the Metaverse Standards Forum and will participate in defining and setting priorities and interoperability standards to build a ubiquitous, open and inclusive Metaverse.
Lleida, 4 October 2022. Lleida-based company Invelon, specialised in the implementation of immersive technologies such as virtual, augmented and mixed reality, has joined in collaboration with the Metaverse Standards Forum, the first global entity with the aim of establishing open and inclusive standards for the Metaverse industry, extended reality and 3D technologies.
The body will explore, together with its members, how to accelerate the deployment of Metavers and where interoperability is being held back. It will focus on pragmatic and action-based projects, such as: application prototyping, defining consistent terminology and implementation guidelines, identity and privacy management, how financial transactions work, the Internet of Things and digital twins, among others. A series of guidelines that will determine how we will interact in this new virtual world.
The purpose of the forum is not to create standardisation, but to become a place for discussion and coordination between organisations and the industry at large, creating working groups that can define the requirements and priorities of the Metavers. Entering the virtual universe will require virtual, augmented and mixed reality, concepts that are often confused. As Marc Solé, CTO of Invelon, points out, "we live in a world based on 3D communication: houses, cars, machinery... but the internet we use hinders the ability to communicate by presenting this information in 2D devices. The new internet, which Metavers presents, gives us the opportunity to simplify this communication, as well as to enjoy its own economy, governance, identity and therefore its own democracy".
The 'Metaverse Standards Forum' was born in June 2022 with 35 founding members such as the Khronos Group, associations like the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) or XR (XRA), Adobe or Meta. Together with Invelon, more than 1,500 organisations are already members, including Microsoft, Google, Sony, D-Link and Deloitte.
