Case study: Universitat de Lleida

The solution implemented: AURORA VR AND SPACE CONFIGURATION

Teaching at the Escola Politècnica Superior of the Universitat de Lleida is carried out through the immersive use of new technologies and the most advanced pedagogical and teaching methods, as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies. That is where Invelon Technologies comes in, integrating the Aurora VR and Space Configuration solutions with HP hardware to guarantee practical training for students on the Technical Architecture and Building, Industrial, Computer Science and Design degrees at the Universitat de Lleida, which can be applied and developed in the world of work.

About the ESCOLA POLITÈCNICA SUPERIOR OF THE UdL

The Escola Politècnica Superior (EPS) of the Universitat de Lleida is an educational centre with more than twenty-five years of history, based on high technological quality and sensitivity to the needs of the social and economic environment. The content of the course programmes aims to train professionals capable of adapting to changing needs, of business and technology as well as of society, and this is reflected in the high graduate employment rate of its degrees. This pursuit of innovation in the industrial and technological field also enables students to take part in leading projects related to computer science, industrial engineering and technical architecture.

What does the UdL need?

At Invelon Technologies we have developed the Aurora VR and Space Configuration solutions for the Universitat de Lleida, as well as the integration of two HP Z VR BACKPACK G2 hardware units and the HP REVERB headsets with controllers. This new project has been carried out as a complement to the UdL’s Teaching Innovation Project “Immersive learning in 3D virtual environments”, coordinated by Professor Gabriel Perez. The main objective is to apply the new technologies of Virtual and Augmented Reality as an immersive learning teaching tool, as well as a design tool in the fields of architecture and industrial engineering.

Thanks to this integration of VR and AR at the EPS, the “EPS Extended Reality Lab” department has also been created, bringing together a set of technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, 3D printing and BIM (Building Information Modelling) technologies, in order to become a benchmark in education and research for these new technologies.

Benefits

This type of solution has brought several benefits to the Escola Politècnica Superior (EPS) of the Universitat de Lleida:

  • Competitive advantage, as it is a growing demand in the workplace.
  • A boost for students’ creativity.
  • It allows all the concepts learned to be put into practice.
  • It offers a more complete understanding.
  • It supports training in construction and design.
  • Personalisation of the individual experience.
  • Simulation of real-world scenarios.

Client testimonial

INVELON’s Virtual and Augmented Reality solutions have opened up great learning possibilities for our students, as they can gain a more visual and holistic understanding, as well as explore and improve designs through a real experience, such as changing the material, lighting, measurement system, among others. Thanks to the collaboration with Invelon Technologies, we have also been able to create the “EPS Extended Reality Lab”, which will help us become a benchmark in education and research for these new technologies.
