Case study: Rincones de Burgos

The initiative was created to bring the city's historical, artistic and cultural heritage closer to all kinds of audiences through Virtual Reality experiences capable of transforming the way history is discovered and understood.

Through three immersive journeys, visitors can travel virtually to some of the most representative moments and places in Burgos: the Atapuerca sites, the medieval origins of the city and the figure of El Cid Campeador.

THE NEED

Transforming historical outreach

Burgos City Council faced the challenge of bringing some of the most important episodes and places of its heritage closer to today's visitors in an innovative, accessible and attractive way.

  • Accessing places that are hard to visit: part of Burgos's historical value lies in places with limited access, or whose complexity makes them hard for visitors to understand, such as certain areas of Atapuerca or the urban development of the medieval city.
  • Connecting with new audiences: the project had to offer an experience capable of capturing the interest of very diverse audiences —from tourists and families to young people and schools— using formats closer to today's digital habits.
  • Uniting heritage and technology: the city needed a flexible, portable technology solution that combined education, entertainment and historical rigour without depending on a fixed installation or on specific conditions of the physical space.
  • Creating an autonomous, scalable experience: the experience had to work independently, with automated flows, language management and a structure adaptable to different locations and future needs.

THE SOLUTION

Our technological contribution

At INVELON we have designed and developed a complete immersive experience based on Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality, conceived to turn a cultural visit into an interactive journey through time.

The experience places visitors at the Castle Viewpoint, reimagined as a narrative portal from which to access the different historical routes through an immersive interface inspired by the Compass Rose.

The solution brings together three independent themed journeys:

  • The secrets of Atapuerca: a virtual exploration of the Cueva Mayor and the Sima de los Huesos, giving visual access to one of the most important sites for understanding human evolution.
  • The medieval origins of Burgos: a narrative and visual reconstruction of the city's urban development from its foundation to the 16th century.
  • El Cid and his poem: an evocative experience inspired by the Cantar de mio Cid, where visitors discover key passages of the work through animations and immersive projections.

THE RESULT

A new way to discover Burgos

The result is an immersive experience designed to bring the history of Burgos closer in a visual, accessible and emotional way.

Using Virtual Reality devices, visitors can travel through different historical periods by means of guided narratives, 3D reconstructions and interactive environments designed specifically for heritage outreach.

The project combines historical rigour, audiovisual storytelling and technological accessibility to deliver an educational, emotional experience adapted to domestic and international audiences.
